This will be the first of 2-3 gatherings to think together about this globally impactful (and dense) text. Irene Brisson of 1st UU will be hosting and will bring some sweet treats from J.P. Makes & Bakes! We’ll be introducing ourselves to the text by watching/listening to an overview video and reading excerpts from the preface to the book. Dialogues for Liberation is a part of the GDUUC Social Justice Committee because self-education and reflection is a key component of building a just world. We are reading and thinking with Paulo Freire because he also believed this – that transformative action and critical (self-)reflection are two sides of one practice. Freire’s theory and practice of education is based in dialogue between people and in the knowledge oppressed people have of their/our lived experiences. Let’s practice together!
